For our pups with allergies, I’m going to have to say that this one isn’t hypoallergenic, mostly because of the whole wheat flour. You could try making it with coconut flour if you want to give it a whirl.

The powdered milk can cause issues for pups with dairy issues, though. Since it’s a milk bone, I can’t really think of a good alternative for that. If you know of one, please let us know in the comments.

Cool completely before serving. They should be nice and hard, like a crunchy biscuit. Store in an airtight container.

Ingredient Swaps and Add-ins

Ingredient Swaps:

  • Flour: If your dog has a wheat allergy, consider swapping out the standard flour for rice flour, oat flour, or almond flour.
  • Milk Bone: For dogs with sensitivities, opt for grain-free or hypoallergenic dog biscuits. You can also use small pieces of dehydrated sweet potatoes as a healthier alternative.
  • Peanut Butter: Use almond butter or sunflower seed butter if your dog is allergic to peanuts. Ensure any nut butter used is free of xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.

Add-ins:

  • Pumpkin Puree: Add a tablespoon of pumpkin puree to the dough for a boost of fiber and nutrients.
  • Carrots: Finely grated carrots add a touch of sweetness and a satisfying crunch.
  • Cinnamon: A pinch of cinnamon can add flavor and has anti-inflammatory properties. Be careful with the amount, as too much can be harmful.

These swaps and add-ins allow you to customize the treats based on your dog’s dietary needs and preferences, making them both fun and functional for your furry friend.
